I've just always been a big ham. When I was young, and I'm talking 3 or 4 years old, I would walk up to complete strangers and ask them to watch my tap dance or listen to my song. I just loved getting all dressed up, performing, and making people smile!
Music and theater was in my blood from the start. I was born in Virginia and moved to Oklahoma at an early age, where my incredibly beautiful and talented mother could tell right away that she had a performer on her hands. I took every lesson I could—tap, jazz, ballet, singing, acting, and piano.
I made my professional debut at the age of 15 at a local summer stock theatre company called Lyric Theatre. Luckily, my mother was cast in the same show and could drive me there each day since I didn't have my license yet. The next three summers I was able to drive myself, which is a good thing considering I was in eight shows!
I went to school at the University of Central Oklahoma where I received my BA in Music Theatre in 1998. Then it was on to Austin, Texas and a job at BookPeople, the coolest bookstore ever! In 1999 I started reading at the weekly storytimes there and found out that performing for children was a great experience. They made me laugh as much as I made them laugh! Life was great.
In 2001 I met the amazing Joe McDermott and started singing backup for him. After about two years performing together he asked me to become his Official Birthday Party Entertainer, and in December of 2003 I performed at my first party. I loved every minute of it!
Now I perform at birthday parties and children's events almost every weekend and I still love it! I have weekly shows all over town and have met some of the best kids ever. I've even started singing at pre-schools and elementary schools.
I'm proud to say that I've also started writing my own original kids' songs and will be releasing my first solo album in the summer of 2006, so stay tuned!
I would like to thank all of the wonderful moms, dads, nannies, grandmothers, grandfathers, aunts and uncles that keep bringing their kids out to see me! I wouldn't be where I am today without your support!
